Following their impressive win against Hoffenheim last weekend, Borussia Mönchengladbach will be hoping to continue their streak by conquering Schalke 04 in the upcoming Bundesliga match on Saturday. This could be their first consecutive victories this season.
Gladbach ended their run of consecutive losses this past weekend with a win over Hoffenheim; they've been back on track since the start of 2023. Jonas Hofmann gave his team a commanding two-goal lead with a first-half double, however, Ilhas Bebou managed to get one back late in the second half. Despite this, Gladbach held on for the win with scores from Lars Stindl & Hannes Wolf in the dying minutes sealing their comfortable victory. Going into the weekend, Gladbach are in eighth place and have seven points to make up if they want to enter European competition. Therefore, their priority might be guaranteeing a top-half finish rather than a European qualification. Daniel Farke's team have been particularly successful playing at home this season, attaining 18 of their 25 points from matches in Borussia-Park. An impressive tally of 22 goals has been scored by this club at their home stadium, reported to be higher than any other side in the top tier - apart from Bayern, naturally. At their last twelve competitions with Schalke, Gladbach only lost one. Therefore, they will be feeling optimistic about grabbing at least a point in the upcoming Saturday match vs FC Schalke 04.
Schalke are in a dire situation as they sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings, trailing Hertha by three
points. If they are to have any hopes of staying up, they need to start racking up wins soon. Schalke managed a 0-0 draw against FC Köln even though it wasn't enough to get them the three points. This ended a streak of three straight losses, so the team should take some heart from the result and keep their spirits up. If Die Königsblauen wants to remain as a topflight team, then they will have to step up their game whilst playing away from Veltins Area. Schalke are looking to break their away-game winless streak in this season. To do so, they must put in extra effort and try to outshine their past performances on their journey. Sadly, their away record in the Bundesliga is not very impressive, as seen from their eight away games which have yielded just two points; making it the poorest away record amongst all teams. Schalke have been in a dire run of away form, not claiming a Bundesliga victory since November 2019 - that's over 36 matches. If they can break that streak and get three points on Saturday, it will be a massive boost for the team.
